We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Tom Roques as the new Clinical Director of the National Cancer Audit Collaborating Centre (NATCAN), following a highly competitive recruitment process with a strong field of candidates.
Tom is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist from Norwich with over 20 years’ experience. He brings extensive expertise at the intersection of clinical practice, national data, and health policy, alongside a strong track record of delivering impactful, data-driven improvements in care.
He has held senior national leadership roles, including serving as Vice-President for Clinical Oncology at the Royal College of Radiologists, where he led initiatives to reduce variation in care through the translation of evidence and data into standardised clinical practice. Tom has also contributed directly to the development of the 2026 National Cancer Plan and has wide-ranging experience working with NHS England, DHSC, Cancer Alliances and professional bodies.
Tom joins NATCAN at an important point in our development. Building on the Centre’s strong foundations, he will focus on maximising the clinical impact of audit programmes—ensuring that data and insights are consistently translated into meaningful improvements in patient care across England and Wales. He is committed to strengthening clinical engagement, supporting multidisciplinary teams, and advancing the quality and relevance of cancer data.
We look forward to working together in this next phase of NATCAN’s development as a centre of excellence in cancer audit and quality improvement.
