The NPCA team is pleased to announce the launch of a Quality Improvement (QI) intervention in January 2026. The primary goal is to improve access of people diagnosed with kidney cancer to Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Care.
The intervention will focus on two key indicators:
1. Percentage of people diagnosed with kidney cancer seen by a CNS (among those with a completed CNS contact field in COSD)
2. Data completeness for COSD CNS contact field
Quarterly Data Dashboard
Results will be added to the NKCA Data Dashboard, updated quarterly, with repeated assessments to track progress over time.
Active Feedback
The audit will pilot targeted feedback to trusts with low percentages of people diagnosed with kidney cancer seen by a CNS or trusts with low percentage of data completeness for the data item. This would include an email outlining each trust’s results, sent to the clinical lead and the nursing lead. The pilot would then be used to refine the intervention before wider roll-out to other providers or the application of the approach to additional indicators.
The audit will also produce a catalogue of best practices and improvement activities to enhance CNS care and share this learning.
Your local Data Liaison Manager will be able to help you find out information about your Cancer Outcomes Services Dataset (COSD) submissions.
